How To Make The Most Of Your Layover

Some travelers choose flights with layovers to save money on their ticket. At times, you can’t avoid layovers and are stuck at the airport for hours before its time for your connecting flight. You don’t have to be bored while waiting for the flight’s departure. There are many activities you can do inside and outside the airport to keep yourself active and entertained. Here are some ways you can make the most of your layover:

1. Explore the Airport

Modern airports are fascinating travel hubs, and there are many things to explore here. You can visit different shops, explore cafes and restaurants, walk around various terminals, watch other passengers or even the employees on the airfield, etc.

Most people don’t pay much attention to the airport during their travels and are surprised at just how exciting these places can be. Many airports also have artwork, displays, entertainment centers, etc. You can explore these as you wait for your connecting flight. Walking around the airport doesn’t just keep youengaged but can also give you some much-needed exercise.

2. Sleep

Most business travelers, don’t get adequate sleep. It is a good idea to take every possible opportunity to catch a few hours of rest. While airports are noisy and full of activity, you can plug in your earphones, listen to music to block out the noise or even catch some shut-eye. Make sure you set the alarm for 30 to 40 minutes before your next flight to ensure you don’t miss it.

3. Read or Listen to a Book

This is a great way to get some rest and entertainment at the same time. You can carry a book or a Kindle with several books stored in it. An expertly narrated, interesting book can keep you engaged and entertained during the layover. Audiobooks will also block off the airport noises and give you some peace. If you’re too tired to venture out of the airport or explore the area, a book is the best solution for you.

4. Explore the Surrounding Area

If you have enough time on your hands, you can always explore the surrounding area. It is a good idea to research the layover city to find exciting places to visit around the airport. Most airports are in prime locations with plenty of attractions in the vicinity. You can visit local restaurants, explore the city’s lakes, beaches, or gardens, and visit tourist attractions. Make sure you don’t venture too far and are back at the airport in time for your flight. Don’t rely on public transportation. It’s best to book a chauffeur service in advance to help you get around the city.

A car rental company will ensure you’re back in time to catch your flight. Most rental companies also provide tour packages and have knowledgeable drivers that can drive you to interesting places. They might even offer a little information about the sites and historical landmarks.

5. Stay at a Nearby Hotel

If your layover stretches too long, it is a good idea to stay at a nearby hotel. You can shower, sleep on a proper bed, or enjoy a warm meal while you wait. Make sure the hotel isn’t more than a 15 to 20 minutes’ drive away from the airport. You should also engage a reliable pick-up and drop service to ensure there’s no need to make any last-minute transportation arrangements.

The airport will have duty-free shops. If you like, you can also go shopping and pick up some gifts for loved ones. These are some of the best ways you can make the most of your layover.
