What is CES?

If you’re a tech-geek or like to keep tabs on all new developments in this industry, you must be familiar with CES. It is an annual trade show that has been going on since June 24th, 1967. CES attracts thousands of attendees from all corners of the world and is held at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Nevada.

About CES

CES is an acronym for Consumer Electronics Show. It is an annual event organized by the Consumer Technology Association with more than 4,500 exhibiting companies. Brands from all arms of the consumer technology industry participate in this exhibition.CES attracts hardware manufacturers, software developers, technology delivery system developers, etc. It doesn’t just attract businesses, but also industry heavyweights like Elon Musk, Tim Cook, Satya Nadella, Sundar Pichai, etc.

Brands use this event as a public product launch/showcase platform, which means it also attracts tech journalists, vloggers, and influencers. Over 182,000 people from 160 countries attend the event and participate in 250 unique conference sessions. Both traditional and non-traditional tech products are showcased at CES.

A Brief Look At CES History

This event started as a spinoff from another event called the Chicago Music Show. It often doubled as a platform for tech companies to show off their consumer electronic products. In June 1967, organizers created a separate event at NYC, inviting over 100 companies to set up exhibitions. This first show was a definite success, drawing around 17,500 tech enthusiasts from all over the U.S.  Bob Galvin, who helmed Motorola from 1959-1986, was the kick-off speaker at the event.

Between 1978 and 1994, CTA organized two distinct shows every year-the winter CES at Las Vegas and summer CES at Chicago. Both shows thrived for a few years before the latter started to fall behind. Organizers eventually scrapped their two-show format and stuck with an annual Las Vegas wintertime CES. This event has been a steady success ever since.
